Colts’ second-half super-show is rewarded
It was a game of two halves as Ludlow Town Juniors Colts produced a stunning comeback in their latest Herefordshire County League outing.
Colts paid the price for squandering a number of chances during the opening 45 minutes with visitors Holme Lacy showing the required ruthlessness in front of goal to establish a three-goal lead.
But a half-time pep-talk clearly had the desired effect with Colts putting their lacklustre first half behind them in stunning fashion.
Not for the first time Colts looked a different side during the second period.
A change in formation and personnel helped inject some life into the hosts with both their passing and finishing showing some welcome improvement.
Colts started to get a foothold in the game with the chances continuing to come. Kieron Hollis went close to cutting the deficit when his sweetly struck volley, that looked destined for the top corner, was superbly tipped around the post by the Lacy keeper.
But Colts were not to be denied and their improvement was duly rewarded when Jabez Smith netted from an acute angle.
The home side continued to pile the pressure on Lacy’s back four and were back in the game with 15 minutes left when Sam Thomas’s fine 18-yard strike found the back of the net to make it 3-2.
There was still time for some late drama during a lengthy spell of stoppage time when, with just seconds to spare, a a melee in the Lacy box ended with the ball ricocheting off the keeper into the path of Rhys Lewis who fired it into the roof of the net to level the scores.
Clee Hill United enjoyed a far more comfortable afternoon as they eased to a 3-0 success away to Ewyas Harold.
