Belting night for Wellington Boxing Academy
Mo Hussain and Amir Fiaz brought belts to Wellington Boxing Academy with their weekend exploits - but Dylan Brassington's title dreams are to an end.
Hussain and Fiaz took home Uni Box Midlands crowns from Evesham Leisure Centre in Worcestershire, at 60kg and 67kg respectively, on Saturday night.
But Brassington was unanimously outpointed on Sunday afternoon in Liverpool in the pre-quarter finals of the England Youth Championships, boxing in Liverpool.
Trainer Mo Fiaz said: "I was over the moon that Dylan managed to win a Midlands title, I know he will come back stronger with the experience he will take from this.
"We do need to work on his boxing skills, as we know the power is there. As for Mo and Amir, the club is buzzing for both of them that have become champions.
"It's a big thing, these belts are being keenly contested by the top boxers in their divisions, so no one gets an easy ride in those title fights."
Brassington never got to grips with the skill of Joe Kavanagh, from Everton Red Triangle, during their bout at 60kg in Class B, for boxers born in 1996.
That disappointment was tempered by Saturday's success with Hussain successfully defending his title against M Abdulkarimi, from Birmingham City Boxing Club.
The majority points call went his way after aggressive offence won him the first two rounds, allowing for him to run out of the steam and lose the third on work-rate.
The same verdict was recorded as Fiaz claimed a vacant belt against Jordan Thompson, from Redditch Sporting Community, over three, three minute rounds.
Both boxed at range, standing 6ft plus, with Thompson an awkward southpaw who was difficult to hit, but caught often enough for Fiaz to be declared the victor.
