Warren Sinden is gunning for a five-star 2014

Welshpool's Warren Sinden is targeting a five-star show in 2014 as he gets the first fight of the year under his belt on Saturday night.

The 24-year-old light middleweight and decorated amateur has managed just three contests since turning pro in November 2011.

Frustrating periods of inactivity have left Sinden on the sidelines for long periods, but he's back at the Tower Ballrooms in Birmingham.

And the former two-time Welsh ABA champion and Wales international believes he can lean on his amateur experience to get him through.

The former Welshpool Boxing Club starlet believes there's no time to waste on his paid mission, as he looks to get busy like never before.

He said: "I have been out of the ring for the last six months now, things have happened that were out of my control throughout my pro career.

"You just have to grit your teeth and get on with it, but I had a lot of experience as an amateur and people write off that experience.

"Some turn pro without learning everything they can from the amateurs but I didn't, I already know how to box and not get hit.

"I want five fights this year, that should get me back to where I should be so I want another pretty quick after this one.

"Then I will be onto the six-rounders and, hopefully, move on and get my first eight-round fight by the end of the year."

Undefeated Sinden will step through the ropes with Norwich's Duane Green, who has won two and drawn one of his nine professional contests.

Sinden said: "All I know of my opponent is that he comes to fight and will try to win, he's not just coming for a pay day, so I am looking forward to it.

"I am a nice, rangy, technical boxer. I can box at long range and keep out of trouble but, at the same time, I don't mind a fight, either!

"The power is coming, but I think my stoppages will come over the longer distances. Four rounds isn't very long to get on top of somebody."

Tickets for the show at the Tower Ballrooms are still available by calling 07427 609 377.
