Even Tony Jones is stunned by swift KO win

Light-welterweight Jones made it two wins from two in the professional ranks with a quick-fire knockout of Evans at Cannock's Chase Leisure Centre.

And the 24-year-old later admitted he would have been just as satisfied with a points win in their six round contest.

He said: "I'm a bit overwhelmed with it, to be honest. I'm normally a bit of a slow starter as I like to size people up, but he caught me with a right-hand shot early on and it woke me up."

Jones finished the fight soon after when he caught Hereford's Evans flush with a left hook, the visiting fighter failing to beat referee Kevin Parker's count.

He added: "I caught him right on the chin and though he got up, I don't think he really fancied it. He told me afterwards he didn't see it coming so fair play to him, it was a good shot from me."

Evans had been brought in as a late replacement after Jones' original opponent, Jason Nesbitt, had to withdraw after being stopped by Rotherham's Adam Hague a week before.

Jones will now take a short break for the summer but aims to be back in action in September, when he will make the switch from fighting six two minute rounds to four three minute rounds.

His manager, Kellie Maloney, was in the crowd in Cannock to watch his latest triumph and was full of praise for the knockout punch.

Jones added: "She sent me a text message afterward to say if I keep throwing shots like that, she might struggle to match me up.

"It was a really pleasing night all round and I'll take confidence from it. I felt more relaxed and boxed well. Coming off my first win seven weeks ago, I feel this was a step forward.

"Now I'm looking forward to a bit of a break, before getting back into training ready for September."
