Tony Jones makes it a hat-trick of wins
Telford's Tony Jones had nothing but praise for 'the road warrior' after defeating the most experienced active fighter in the country.
He made it a hat-trick of professional victories with a useful points win at Aston Villa Football Club on Saturday night,
The Brookside banger took on the ever-green Kristian Laight over four threes in the Holte Suite, with manager Kellie Maloney looking on.
The 23-year-old welterweight maintained his unbeaten record with a landslide 40-36 victory over Laight, who was competing in his 222nd paid bout.
The fighting factory worker waited patiently and doubled up with the jab, working well to the body but, as usual, Laight was going nowhere.
The 35-year-old 'Mr Reliable' brought the best out of Jones, too, with the Shropshire combatant content with his performance.
He said: "It was probably my best test so far, he's a real tough man but he's also technically a lot better than I thought he would be. I wasn't expecting that.
"I was trying to up the pace, but he's very good at slowing it down. He can switch hit and his defence is sound.
"We went toe-to-toe for the last 30 seconds of the fight, when I decided to put my foot on the gas and use all of the energy I had left.
"I learned a lot from this one, more so than the other two. I'm happy about that."
Jones will go for win No 4 at the same venue on Halloween night, Saturday October 31, after previously outpointing Matt Seawright and stopping Dean Evans in just 80 seconds.
Maloney chose to watch him rather than stable-mate Gary Cornish, the big heavyweight falling after just 90 seconds to Anthony Joshua in London.
Jones said: "Kellie didn't want Gary to take the fight. I think his trainers talked him into it, so she didn't want to be there.
"She told me to keep progressing and that I wouldn't know everything about boxing in six months. We're both happy with how things are going."
