Shropshire notch their maiden victory

Shropshire's darters return home to host their next BDO British Inter-Counties Championship Division Four fixture with their first win on the board.

Shropshire next entertain Clywd, after a curtain-raising 24-12 defeat to Montgomery & Radnor, in better spirits. A 23-13 victory over the West of England broke their duck.

The county throwers first toed the oche in Bristol for the ladies 'B' match, where the two sides could not be separated in a 3-3 draw.

Deana Worrall was Shropshire's top scorer with an average of 15.66 in a 3-1 win over Catherine Rosser, while the hosts' Lucy Connor notched 15.79 in a last-leg 3-2 vanquishing of Suzanne Lane (14.96).

An 8-4 in the men's 'B' standings handed Shropshire the initiative. They saved the best for last in Andre Knox, who clocked up 25.47 in a 3-0 whitewash of Michael O'Neill.

And Shropshire were in the driving seat after the ladies 'A' affair, where they handed their home counterparts a 5-1 thrashing.

The pick of the winners was Stephanie Clarke's 14.75 in a 3-0 landslide over Helen Jones, while Jayne Fitzgerald replied with 14.90 in a 3-2 win over Julie Griffiths (14.90).

The visitors closed out success with a hard-fought 7-5 victory in the men's 'A' ties, where 11 of out of 12 of Shropshire's averages were 20 plus.

Danny James led the way with 25.50 in a 4-3 defeat of Alan Thatcher, while second-best Kevin Harris' 24.52 was not enough to prevent a 4-2 loss to the West of England's Andrew White (27.16).
