No more baby blues for Craig Morris

Ludlow's Craig Morris wants to show his opponent who the daddy is when he returns to action at Walsall Town Hall tomorrow night.

The undefeated Shropshire light middleweight will be looking to make it 4-0 against William Warburton over four rounds,

writes Craig Birch.

The 23-year-old's fourth pro bout would have come sooner, as he was due to box at Walsall Football Club in early October.

His fiancee Lorna Biggs was due to give birth to their second child the week after his ring date, with signs of early labour forcing him to pull out of the right.

New arrival Connie May is now here to join brother Riley, 1, so Morris' mind is back on boxing - even if he's endured a few sleepless nights!

He said: "As soon as the midwife told me that the baby was likely to come early, there's no way I could risk being out boxing.

"As it turns out, she came along four days after the fight would have happened, but no-one could have known that for sure.

"She's happy and healthy and I'm getting used to being up at 5.30am to fed her. I'm still a carpenter, so then it's off to work.

"I head to the gym straight after for my training, so it's normally pretty late into the evening when I get home. There's not much time to relax.

"It's been a tough camp, in that respect, but I've put the hard work in and, hopefully, that will show when I get into the ring."

The former Ludlow School captain is managed by Claverley's Dave Bradley and coached by former Midlands champion Steve Chinnock.

Morris has stopped his last two opponents, with Viktors Drizlionoks and Victor Edagha going down in the third and fourth rounds respectively.

But a durable opponent now awaits in centurion William Warburton, who has been stopped just twice in a whopping 110 contests.

Morris said: "I've not going into any of the fights looking to knock people out, I've just boxed to my abilities and the TKOs have come along.

"I've been working on a few things and, hopefully, I'll get the chance to put that in action against Warburton, but I've got to play it safe.

"I had Kevin McCauley for my first opponent and he'd had over 100 fights, so I'm expecting a similar sort of test. I showed what I can do then and I want to do the same here."

Tickets, priced at £30 and £60 ringside, are still on sale from the Town Hall Box Office on 0845 111 2900 and from Duncan Morris on 07890 844 418, with coach travel at £8 for the latter.
