Craig Morris could box in Ludlow next
Craig Morris' management are seriously considering putting on a show in the fighter's hometown of Ludlow next year.
The undefeated 23-year-old made it 4-0 as a professional on Saturday night with a hard-fought points victory over William Warburton, writes Craig Birch.
The capable southpaw recorded his latest success at Walsall Town Hall, where three of his bouts have taken place. The other was in the Stadium Suite at Walsall Football Club.
That could change as promoter Errol Johnson's Black Country Boxing ponder staging a bill at Ludlow Racecourse in March.
Morris, a former Ludlow School captain, became the first pro boxer from the town in over 75 years when he turned over in April and would be elated to box on his own turf.
He said: "It would mean the world to me, I've always been proud of where I come from and the people of Ludlow have really supported me.
"When I walk down the street, people that I don't even know have come up to me and asked me how I'm getting on. It's great."
A stern examination of Morris' credentials awaited in the form of the vastly-experienced Warburton, a veteran of 111 contests having failed to complete the distance just twice.
Having landed TKOs in each of his two previous contests, Morris again worked the body with the trademark left hand.
True to form, there was no removing Warburton and the journeyman from Atherton in Derbyshire took the fourth round, too, as Morris faded.
Referee Terry O'Connor had it 39-37 to Morris, who openly admitted he was given a tough time in there against a determined opponent.
He said: "It was a step up, to be honest, most people don't have him until their seventh or eighth fight, so it's come a bit early for me.
"It went to plan, but it was just a bit harder than I expected. He was durable, he knew every trick in the book and, make no mistake, he came to win.
"I learned more from that fight than I did in the previous three. I'm very pleased with the result and how I had to work for it."
