Craig Morris chasing a Midlands title shot

Morris is back into action after a historic night for him and his hometown resulted in his first title on March 12,

The town's first professional boxer for over 75 years headlined Ludlow's first pro boxing bill since the 1930s and claimed a British Challenge strap.

Now the 24-year-old southpaw has set his sights on the Midlands welterweight crown, which has been vacated by Ryan Fields.

But first thing's first and that's Arvydas Trizno for the undefeated prospect, at the scene of three of his five victories since first punching for pay.

The Lithuanian will be boxing his 80th pro bout and has racked up 22 wins, challenging for the WBC Youth Silver title earlier in his career.

Morris said: "I want a Midlands title shot after this. That would be a massive step for me and I have to put myself in a good position.

"I am not looking past this fight and I have to make sure I perform. I don't feel any pressure about it, though. I am fully-focused on Trizno.

"I always told people that I would like to go for the Midlands and then I would love it if I could win an English title or something like that.

"Anything beyond that would be fantastic. I am just in boxing to go as far as I can."

Morris' title glory came on points through an eight-rounder against William Warburton, who went on to upset Midlands light middleweight champion Jason Welborn.

With that mind, the Shropshire fighter won't under-estimate any opponent, adding: "Trizno will be tough. I have seen a couple of little clips of him and I know he is game.

"He won't just roll over and he throws his right hand in a fair bit. I have left my trainer (Steve Chinnock) to study him. I trust him and my manager (Dave Bradley) fully.

"I couldn't have asked for a better start. I have stopped two of my opponents and have boxed William Warburton twice, one for the title, and both of them have been really hard fights.

"Warburton beat Jason not so long ago, which just proves how good he is. I had massive support in my last fight in Ludlow, too, it's been great and I'm on my way up.

"I want to keep climbing the ladder. I have been training hard to get in the best shape I can. I have picked up sparring and have dropped my weight a bit, so I am ready to go.

"I don't mind where I fight. I always take crowds with me. It is a good venue at Walsall and the fans enjoy coming over. It should be a quality night of boxing."

The former Ludlow School captain has been backed by his older brother Stefan's business, Morris Autos, along with Flowfit, D W Wall & Son Butchers and recently Farmers The Market.

He's also secured additional sponsorship from his employer, Ludlow's W M Stewardson Kitchen & Bathrooms, where he works as a carpenter.
