The visitors made light of the gap in league standings with a much-improved display against a side sitting second in the table and boasting an unblemished record.

A much-changed Bridgnorth side adopted a new half-court press which proved successful right from the off against a free-scoring Warwick outfit.

The home side found Bridgnorth's dogged defence and much-improved work-rate very difficult to break down with the visitors looking dangerous on the break.

Bridgnorth did have chances as Joe Toulson deflected wide and Pete Evans had a shot saved well by the home keeper.

At the other end, Bridgnorth shot-stopper Darren Dixon had to be alert to save smartly to keep the score goalless at the interval.

The second half started in much the same vein as Bridgnorth continued to frustrate Warwick.

But Bridgnorth were then undone by cruel break when a cross was deflected into the path of a Warwick forward and he slotted home.

The Cricket Meadow men stayed upbeat, however, and continued to show huge amounts of desire to get back in the game.

And they saw a great chance to level the scores go begging when Toulson missed a gilt-edged opening.

The visitors continued to pile on the pressure but were unable to find that all important breakthrough as Warwick held on to record their fifth straight win and maintain their perfect record.

Bridgnorth will be looking to build on that display when they entertain Warwick University on Saturday.

Whitchurch were left frustrated in their bid to build on their impressive start to the season.

The North West League Division 7 South West table-toppers, who are chasing a second successive promotion, were inactive after Colwyn Bay were unable to raise a side. Colywn Bay have now resigned from the league.
