Tony Jones court out for his ring return

Telford's Tony Jones has been ruled out of making a fighting return to the Black Country next month – because he's in court!

'Blaze' entertained the Venue in Dudley on Friday night with another barn-burner and there's another show there on Sunday December 4,

However, the 25-year-old super lightweight can't commit to the training camp needed to get another bout under his belt because of his impending court date – for jury service.

Unbeaten Jones is instead looking to be back in action around February, having once again taken fight of the night honours on the PJ Promotions show.

With manager Kellie Maloney looking on, he and Ross Jameson collided over four rounds in what proved to be an entertaining tussle.

Jones won Best Fight at the British Boxing Board of Control's Midlands area annual awards for his draw with Irwin Magno the previous time out.

And Jameson, who had took Conor Benn the distance in his last action, played his part by taking the fight to his opponent.

Jones said: "We knew it would be a pretty risky opponent, but we fancied getting the job done. It turned out well and I'm never in a boring fight.

"I'd studied him, so I knew what his strengths and weaknesses were. I thought I boxed well, so I'm happy with my performance.

"I was pleased with my cardio and how loose I was in there, I felt so good considering I'd been out of the ring for five months."

Jones targeted with the body with 'Rosco' going for the head, before 'Blaze' switched up his attacks to start swinging looping right hands.

He was closing out a victory on the cards when Jameson went hell for leather in the dying seconds, Jones feeling the full force of blows from both hands.

The final bell came to Jones' aid and he'd recorded a 40-38 advantage with referee Shaun Messer, Jameson earning a share of two rounds.

Jones said: "I don't want to fight journeyman, opponents coming at you is how you learn. That doesn't bring the best out in me, you need that fear inside of you.

"He's had his whole career, four fights since July, since the last time I was in the ring. I knew he'd be stocky and sharp, but I didn't think he was a better boxer than me.

"I took too many risks, particularly towards the end, and I got told off by Kellie for it. I took it as positive criticism. The crowd had a good time, I had a good time and I'm still unbeaten."
