A Rotary club’s Santa sleigh has been promised match funding up to £1,000.

The pledge to Shrewsbury Severn Rotary has been made by a global financial services provider who have visited the club to explain they are committed to supporting community-based projects.

As a result, members were delighted to hear that the Rotary club’s sleigh programme falls into the criteria for direct match funding of agreed projects.

Two of the providers corporate banking specialists who both cover Shropshire heard that the Rotary sleigh is currently undergoing a massive rebuild to take to the streets and visit supermarkets this coming Christmas.

“Where we can we are supporting the community and raising money,” they told Rotarians. “At the same time as helping the community we are also building relationships, making new and gaining old ones. The Shrewsbury team can support the sleigh £1 for £1 and match fund up to £1,000.

“We will also support the sleigh get enough funds to match £1,000.”

And they added: “We provide match funding for a charity once a year, working in partnership - working together.”

Shrewsbury Severn Rotary Club’s president David Morris, who arranged the visit, said: ''We feel incredibly privileged to have secured support from one of the biggest players in the global finance industry.

“This will clearly be of considerable benefit to Shrewsbury when we start to allocate funding to the local charitable sector in the new year.”
