Artistic license for creativity and wellbeing
What an amazing year for ArtShack! Following our very successful exhibition at Shrewsbury's Bear Steps Gallery in March, we were subsequently thrilled to receive funding from the Heart Of England Inclusive Communities Fund - a £9 million initiative inspired by the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.
The Inclusive Communities Fund was made available by the UK Government through the Department for Culture, Media, and Sport (DCMS), with the West Midlands Combined Authority overseeing the fund.
Aligned with the Commonwealth Games principles, we are focused on bringing people together and improving well-being through creativity and dance, and Inclusive Communities awarded us a grant of £14,600 in March this year. This incredible support has allowed us to increase our offer to the communities within Shropshire and beyond throughout the past nine months.
Based in an idyllic rural environment, ArtShack provides a creative space that supports and encourages holistic well-being within an all inclusive community. We welcome all ages and abilities (including social prescription referrals) to come and reignite or develop their creativity in a safe and supportive environment.
Maggie Allmark, founder of ArtShack says: “This has been a wonderful year for ArtShack and its community. We have been able to provide extra weekly creative sessions to meet increasing demand, as well as consolidate procedures within the organisation.”
ArtShack has a growing number of participants and this funding has given us the opportunity to host an extra ‘Get Creative’ day every week for nine months, enabling more people to enjoy the benefits of our creative community and our beautiful environment.
“Love this place and our ArtShack family so much. Thank you Inclusive Communities!” ArtShack member.
