Developers sustain Whitchurch support with green fair sponsorship
Residents in Whitchurch enjoyed a day of sustainable and creative fun with the return of Blackberry Fair.
The highly-anticipated event, which takes place annually in October, was established in 2007 to bring art to the town, regenerate the high street and bring the local community together. The fair is entirely built upon the theme of sustainability, with this being factored into every facet of the event.
With Barratt and David Wilson Homes currently building in the town at the Clockmakers and Talbot Place developments on Tilstock Road, the housebuilders have continued their community outreach by sponsoring the fair with a joint £1,500 contribution, which was put towards running costs.
The event included a plethora of activities, stalls and entertainment. Recycled fashion shows, an indoor craft fair, art workshops, puppet cinema, magical Fae-themed markets and walks, a pirate ship, and much more was on display for all attendees to enjoy.
Steve Chapman, Event Organiser at Blackberry Fair, said: “Aside of the generous support we received from Barratt and David Wilson Homes which enables our town of Whitchurch to stage an event like Blackberry Fair, it’s important to recognise that we share an effective role in shaping the future sustainability of our growing community together with its outlying environment and biodiversity.
“Getting the balance right has to be our constant aim. We really can affect change for a better, more holistic future by listening and working together through collaborative positive action.”
The day’s events closed with a parade and an evening of entertainment with live music including singalongs and classic sea shanties, and food and drink tasting.
Helen Lewis, Managing Director at David Wilson Homes Mercia, said: “We are delighted to be able to continue supporting the local community in Whitchurch by sponsoring this fantastic event and promoting sustainability in the area. This is very much in line with our own ethos and our approach to building new homes at our developments.”
Adrian Evans, Managing Director at Barratt Homes West Midlands, said: “It was brilliant to see so many people attending, getting involved in all the activities and indulging in everything that Whitchurch has to offer. We hope the Blackberry Fair will continue to grow and look forward to the event returning next year.”
