Society celebrates 'best in town' at presentation

The Bishop's Castle Civic Society Annual Awards was held in the Methodist Hall, Bishop's Castle on Thursday, 7 November, judged by Tina Palmer.

The Shropshire Star Cup for the Best Wayside Garden was awarded to Sue Owen. Highly commended were Clinton Gayle and Mandy Bryce.

The Dr and Mrs St. John Penney Rose Bowl for the Best Hanging Baskets was awarded to David Collins. Highly commended were Roger and Sheila Morris.

The Kenneth Lewis Cup for the Best Kept Private Premises was awarded to Anne-Marie Jackson.

The Robert Gwyther Cup for the Best Kept Business Premises was awarded to Vikki Robson, Marches Foot Care in Station Street.

The Jack and Gillian Mawdsley Cup for the Best New Work or Renovation was awarded to the Bishop's Castle Community & District Land Trust for the renovation of the Stars shop in Church Street.

The awards were followed by an excellent illustrated talk by Evelyn Bowles about The Origins of the Heritage Resource Centre in Chapel Yard.

The meeting was followed by tea, coffee and baked biscuits kindly provided by members.
