The students from Shrewsbury Colleges Group served alongside members and partners of Shrewsbury Severn Rotary Club who hosted the party for 60 elderly residents in the area.

The party, originally scheduled as a pre-Christmas event, had to be cancelled due to a weather forecast of flooding at the venue, the Barnabus Centre in Longden Coleham.

But thankfully, the cancellation turned out to be only a postponement as the Rotary organisers liaised with the Barnabus Centre to re-organise the event.

As well as afternoon tea, presents and entertainment, provided by Alan Leather, Rod Turner and friends, Rotarians transported the visitors to and from the party and the visitors were also treated to a surprise visit from Santa within the 12 days of Christmas.

Principal organiser Rotarian John Yeomans said: “The feedback I received from our guests was very warm and positive which made the extra effort to stage the party all the more worthwhile.

“Everyone said how much they had enjoyed themselves and are already looking forward to us organising a similar event this coming December.”
