Mrs Brown, from St Mary’s, took part in the Premier League Primary Stars programme which includes the opportunity for teachers to take advantage of a mentoring scheme with Foundation staff to build their confidence.

“I have been teaching a long time, but I wouldn’t say the PE was the first subject that I would choose to teach,” says Mrs Brown.

“But I also recognise the importance of CPD, and of always being ready to learn along the teaching journey.

“I found the whole process with Wolves Foundation to be really supportive.

“It was such an open process, working with Emily (Schools Officer Emily Walker) and the other staff, putting together a programme that worked best for all of us.

“It has been massive for me, both for my confidence levels and the CPD element of learning and making my practice even better.”

Emily has also seen at first hand just how much Mrs Brown has improved her skills and confidence.

“At the start of the process, we had a meeting and discussed what Mrs Brown felt she struggled with when teaching PE, and which particular areas she wanted to work on,” she says.

“Each week we set different targets and worked on lesson plans to develop her skills and knowledge of PE to the benefit of the children.

“By the end of the programme, she is now teaching with so much confidence, not needing to ask any questions, and delivering lessons of a really high quality.”

St Mary’s deputy head Mr Holmes, who has worked with the Foundation at different schools during his career, added: “Mrs Brown worked really well with Emily from the Foundation and it is clear to see how much her confidence has increased when she is delivering lessons.

“The partnership with Wolves Foundation is really important to us, and the values of Premier League Primary Stars align very closely with our own here at the school.”

Mrs Brown, in reflecting on the difference that Premier League Primary Stars has made, says it has been a ‘really positive experience’.

“As a teacher, it is always important to have the mindset that you can still improve, and that is what I was able to do whilst working with Wolves Foundation,” she added.

“It has been a really positive experience and the children have loved it as well, watching their teacher learn at the same time.”
