Kate reins supreme! Local master saddler wins at national saddlery competition

This prestigious event is held by the Society of Master Saddlers, the governing body of the UK’s saddlery trade, and is hosted by the The Worshipful Company of Saddlers at Saddlers’ Hall in London. Competing against the country’s finest saddlers, Kate was awarded first place in the Side Saddle Class, a category that celebrates the intricate craftsmanship and tradition of making side saddles.

The competition, now in its 51st year, is one of the highlights in the society’s calendar, attracting skilled artisans from across the UK and abroad. Each entry is meticulously judged on craftsmanship, design, and fitness for purpose. Having come second in the same class in last year’s competition, winning first prize this year is a testament to Kate’s dedication, expertise, and passion for the craft.

The Side Saddle Association Cup - the trophy for the Side Saddle Class - was generously donated 25 years ago by the Side Saddle Association, an organization dedicated to preserving and promoting the elegant art of side-saddle riding.
