Shropshire performer swaps the spotlight for the director's chair

Andrew Murray is no stranger to Shropshire’s thriving arts scene. With a career spanning lead roles in local theatre productions, dazzling performances at the Shropshire Proms, and a lengthy term as President of SMTC, Andrew has also worked extensively behind the scenes in various backstage roles. Now, he’s embracing the challenge of directing for the first time, and Stepping Out is the perfect production for his debut.

An accomplished tap dancer himself, Andrew brings a deep appreciation for the rhythm and energy that make this show so special.

“Telling stories has always been my passion, whether on stage or behind the scenes,” says Andrew. “I’ve always loved this play because it’s about people discovering their potential while having a great time. It’s a joy working with such a talented cast to bring these characters and their journeys to life. It’s a real celebration of perseverance, community, and, of course, the joy of tap dancing.”

Stepping Out tells the story of a group of amateur dancers who meet weekly at their local hall for a tap class. Over time, they navigate the ups and downs of their personal lives, bond as a group, and work together to prepare for their first public performance. Full of laughter, heartwarming moments, and toe-tapping fun, this production is sure to delight audiences.
