Five women are leading the creation of a community garden in Cleobury Mortimer to benefit local people, part of the Flourish & Nourish local community group. Phase 1 includes fencing, groundwork, and orchard planting. They envision a beautiful, healing garden for learning and community bonding. Actions so far include planting raised beds, community consultations, and partnerships with local organisations. They aim to support mental health and well-being through nature and community activities.

The project previously won Severn Trent’s NeighbourGOOD competition, set up to provide support for vital projects across all its counties.

As well as winning a £2,500 grant, Flourish & Nourish will now see 40 Severn Trent volunteers spending a day supporting to erect rabbit proof cattle fencing, putting down wood chip for pathways, building raised vegetable beds, pallet benches and a tool shed.

Liz Heath, Social Impact Lead at Severn Trent said: “We’re looking forward to spending some time in Shropshire supporting Flourish & Nourish to create a peaceful community garden.

“Projects like this are often at the heart of the communities they serve, and are so important to people locally. We’re delighted to offer our support to help the communities that we serve.”

As part of the NeighbourGOOD scheme, Flourish & Nourish were also awarded a grant towards material costs of the project.
