James Hodgson, Director of the Kingsland Bridge Company, explained that the manufacturer of the new toll barriers had experienced unexpected problems which had delayed the manufacturing process by several days.

However, he was now pleased to announce that the new toll barrier system had been given the green light and this would be installed at the Murivance end of the toll bridge starting at the beginning of next week.

Mr Hodgson said: “We are most grateful to the public for their patience and understanding during the unexpected delay in installing the new toll barriers.

“The road may need to be closed for short periods during the installation of the barriers. Installation is now scheduled for week commencing March 3 and will probably take anything up to two weeks to complete.

“However, the road will remain open for residents and those who wish to park.”

The latest upgrade of the toll barriers is the most significant Kingsland Bridge development yet with the introduction of payment by contactless card only. Payment by cash will cease.

Mr Hodgson added: “After 13 years we are also taking the opportunity to increase the toll charge from 20p to 30p.”

The installation will be the second major technological innovation the owners have introduced in a year.
